**PANAJI, GOA** – Abu Farhan Azmi, son of Maharashtra Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi, was involved in a fight in Goa on Monday night, leading to his booking by local police. Azmi, a restaurateur and husband of actress Ayesha Takia, maintains the incident was a minor misunderstanding that escalated.
Speaking outside the Calangute police station on Wednesday, Azmi stated that he and his son were enjoying a visit to Goa when a minor altercation occurred with a group of bikers. He claims he signaled to change lanes, but the group responded aggressively, leading to a larger confrontation. Azmi insists he did not brandish a weapon and called the police (100) when the situation became overwhelming.
He vehemently denied any anti-Goan sentiment, emphasizing his long-standing love for the state and its people, calling Goa his “home away from home.” He expressed sadness over the incident and highlighted the support he received from many Goan friends. Azmi praised the cooperative attitude of the Goa police, stating his full cooperation with their investigation. While offering a conciliatory apology, he maintained he wasn’t at fault.
This incident comes amidst controversy surrounding Azmi’s father, who was suspended from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly this week for praising Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The suspension will last until the end of the current budget session on March 26th.
