Thu Mar 06 14:58:50 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Police Face Backlash for Case Against YouTuber Discussing Soujanya Rape-Murder Case

**Mangaluru, March 6, 2025** – The All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) has condemned the Karnataka police’s decision to file a case against a YouTuber, M.D. Sameer, for a video discussing the 2012 Soujanya rape and murder case. The police action, taken following a directive from the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), cites the potential for law and order issues due to the video generating pro and anti comments. Sameer has been charged under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The AIDSO alleges that instead of investigating the case impartially, the government is attempting to suppress those seeking to uncover the truth behind the murder of 17-year-old Soujanya, a pre-university student. The organization points to suspicions surrounding the involvement of influential individuals in the crime.

The original case, which saw the acquittal of the sole accused, Santosh Rao, by a CBI court and the subsequent rejection of a plea for a fresh probe by the Karnataka High Court, remains highly controversial. The AIDSO’s statement underscores growing public concern about the handling of the investigation and the implications of silencing voices demanding accountability.
