**Kanpur, UP [Date]** – The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) has become the first technology institute in Uttar Pradesh and the third central university/institute in the state to establish a Census Data Research Workstation, thanks to a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, Ministry of Home Affairs.
The workstation, located at IIT Kanpur’s Computer Centre, provides researchers and students with digital access to published census tables and micro-level data from 1991 to 2011. This resource will facilitate in-depth analysis of socio-economic and demographic trends, supporting data-driven policymaking and the evaluation of development programs.
“We are honored to partner with the Ministry of Home Affairs for this crucial initiative,” said Professor Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur. “This collaboration underscores IIT Kanpur’s commitment to data-driven research and innovation. The workstation will be an invaluable resource, equipping researchers and students with extensive data for impactful research and policy development.”
The new facility complements the existing data available on the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner’s website (censusindia.gov.in), further enhancing access to crucial datasets. This initiative strengthens IIT Kanpur’s research ecosystem and its contribution to India’s national development efforts. The workstation joins four other similar facilities in Uttar Pradesh, located at Banaras Hindu University, Aligarh Muslim University, Bundelkhand University, and DDU Gorakhpur University.
