BOSTON, MA – Veteran sportscaster Mike Tirico will be calling the Boston Celtics game against the Portland Trail Blazers on NBC Sports Boston Wednesday night. This serves as a warm-up for Tirico, who will be NBC’s lead NBA play-by-play announcer when the network’s new 11-year deal begins in October.

Tirico, renowned for his work at NBC on the Olympics and Sunday Night Football, hasn’t called NBA games regularly since 2016. He cited the need to shake off some rust after a nine-year hiatus from consistent NBA coverage. He’ll be joined by Celtics analyst Brian Scalabrine and sideline reporter Abby Chin.

Tirico expressed excitement about working with Scalabrine and Chin, and acknowledged the influence of retired Celtics broadcaster Mike Gorman on his style.
