Thu Mar 06 08:29:00 UTC 2025: **Veteran CPI(M) Leader Sudhakaran Weighs in on Kerala Politics Amidst Party Conference**
KOLLAM, KERALA – March 6, 2025 – G. Sudhakaran, a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], has offered his perspective on the ongoing Kerala State conference, the upcoming Assembly elections, and the party’s future. While not participating in the conference due to the party’s 75-year age limit (which he voluntarily stepped down from in 2022), Sudhakaran remains a significant voice in Kerala’s political landscape.
In an interview with The Hindu, Sudhakaran emphasized that age should not be the sole determinant in political leadership, highlighting the importance of ability and willingness to serve. He confirmed that he wasn’t pressured to remain on the State committee after expressing his desire to step down. Regarding the next Chief Minister, should the Left Democratic Front (LDF) win the 2026 elections, he stated that while he supports Pinarayi Vijayan’s continued leadership, the decision rests with the party, and others are equally qualified. He praised the current government’s mix of experienced and new ministers, urging an evaluation of their performance.
Sudhakaran expressed concern over the party’s evolving structure, noting a significant number of newer members lack ideological grounding. He advocated for strengthening the party’s ideological foundation through re-education for both senior and junior members. He also addressed the perceived lack of internal criticism, suggesting that capable individuals will voice their opinions regardless. He voiced support for M.V. Govindan’s continuation as CPI(M) State secretary, praising his strong stance against corruption and indiscipline within the party. In conclusion, Sudhakaran expressed confidence that the party conference would make decisions aligned with public interest.
