Thu Mar 06 00:11:00 UTC 2025: ## Assam Accuses Northeastern Neighbors of Land Encroachment
**Guwahati, March 6, 2025** – The Assam State government alleges that four neighboring northeastern states have encroached upon over 82,000 hectares of its land. Assam’s Border Protection and Development Minister, Atul Bora, revealed this information to the state assembly on Wednesday.
The minister identified Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland as the states involved in the alleged encroachment, spread across 18 of Assam’s districts. The largest area of disputed land, 59,490.21 hectares, is reportedly under Nagaland’s control, while Meghalaya’s alleged encroachment is the smallest at 3,441.86 hectares. Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram are accused of encroaching upon 16,144.01 and 3,675.78 hectares respectively.
Several districts in Assam, including Biswanath, Cachar, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, and Tinsukia, are reportedly affected. This announcement follows previous border agreements between Assam and its neighbors, including a partial resolution of a long-standing dispute with Meghalaya in 2022 and a declaration with Arunachal Pradesh later that year. However, the latest claims indicate ongoing border tensions in the region.
