Thu Mar 06 00:21:05 UTC 2025: ## European Nations Demand Hamas Exclusion from Gaza Reconstruction

**United Nations, New York** – A coalition of European nations – France, Britain, Denmark, Greece, and Slovenia – issued a strong statement Wednesday demanding Hamas have no role in the future governance of the Gaza Strip. The statement followed a UN Security Council meeting focused on the territory’s reconstruction following the devastating October 2023 conflict.

The European nations voiced their support for an Arab League plan, adopted Tuesday in Cairo, to rebuild Gaza under the authority of the Palestinian Authority (PA). This plan serves as an alternative to a controversial US proposal that would have involved resettlement of Gazans. The European diplomats emphasized that any viable plan must guarantee Israel’s security while simultaneously preventing the displacement of Gazan Palestinians.

French diplomat Jay Dharmadhikari, speaking on behalf of the group, stressed that the “final plan must have no role for Hamas” and should support the unification of the West Bank and Gaza under the PA’s control. The Arab League’s plan calls for the unification of Palestinians under the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which excludes Hamas.

The European countries pledged their support for the Arab League initiative and expressed readiness to contribute to its implementation. However, Dharmadhikari also issued a firm demand for Israel to immediately allow the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, characterizing this as a non-negotiable condition. Currently, Israel is withholding aid until Hamas meets certain conditions related to the fragile truce in place since January 19th.
