Thu Mar 06 06:02:46 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu CM Condemns Hindi Imposition, Defends Tamil’s Place

**Chennai, March 6, 2025** – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin vehemently criticized attempts to impose Hindi, calling it a threat to linguistic diversity and national unity. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Stalin compared demands for Hindi dominance to “privilege masquerading as equality,” referencing a well-known quote. He accused those advocating for Hindi’s widespread adoption, particularly those promoting a three-language formula, of being “entitled bigots” and questioned their patriotism, highlighting Tamil Nadu’s significant financial contributions to national defense efforts.

The Chief Minister argued that advocating for Tamil’s rightful place within the state is not chauvinism, but rather a fight for linguistic equality. He cited the use of Hindi in crucial national legislation as an example of Hindi chauvinism, arguing it excludes non-Hindi speakers. He further questioned the central government’s promotion of Hindi under Article 351 of the Constitution while neglecting to recognize all languages represented on Indian currency as official languages.

Mr. Stalin’s comments come amidst a signature campaign launched by the Tamil Nadu BJP in support of a three-language formula in schools. The Chief Minister reiterated his firm stance against Hindi imposition, stating that the DMK government would not compromise on this issue, even if it meant losing power. He asserted that true anti-nationals are those seeking to undermine India’s linguistic and cultural diversity, rejecting the notion of a Hindi-centric “heartland” and highlighting several languages whose prominence has been diminished by Hindi. He concluded that imposing any language breeds enmity and threatens national unity.
