**New Delhi, [Date of Publication]** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence that India will soon become a $5 trillion economy, highlighting the nation’s impressive 66% growth between 2015 and 2025, as cited in a February 2025 IMF report. Addressing a post-budget webinar on employment, Modi attributed this growth to strategic investments and emphasized the need for continued commitment across various sectors.
The Prime Minister announced significant government initiatives aimed at bolstering job creation and economic expansion. These include skill training for 30 million youth since 2014, the upgrade of 1,000 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), and the establishment of five centers of excellence. Further investment in education, healthcare, and skill development, the three pillars of the “investment in people” vision, were also highlighted.
The budget, Modi stated, prioritizes investments in infrastructure, industries, people, the economy, and innovation. Specific measures mentioned include the PM Internship Scheme, the addition of 10,000 medical seats (with a target of 75,000 in five years), and granting infrastructure status to the tourism sector. The government also plans to allocate ₹1 lakh crore to the Urban Challenge Fund to facilitate planned urbanization and attract private sector investment.
Modi also underscored the potential of medical tourism and the tourism sector as a whole, aiming for a 10% contribution to GDP. Fifty destinations will receive development focused on tourism, and initiatives like “Heal in India” and “Land of the Buddha” will be used to attract global tourists.
Significant investments in research and innovation were also announced. This includes a ₹1 lakh crore corpus fund, 10,000 research fellowships at IITs and IISc, the National Geo-spatial Mission, the National Research Foundation, and ₹500 crore allocated for AI-driven education and research, along with the establishment of a National Large Language Model. The government also highlighted the digitization of over one crore manuscripts under the Gyan Bharatam Mission and the creation of a National Gene Bank.
Modi concluded by urging stakeholders – the private sector, educational institutions, and research organizations – to actively participate in these initiatives to achieve India’s ambitious economic goals.
