**PESHAWAR, Pakistan —** A suicide bombing at the Bannu cantonment in northwest Pakistan on March 4, 2025, resulted in the deaths of at least 12 people, including four children and two women, and injured 30 more. Two explosive-laden vehicles rammed into the cantonment’s boundary wall around sunset.
The Jaish Al Fursan, a little-known group affiliated with Hafiz Gul Bahadur and linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the attack. Following the explosions, multiple terrorists attempted to breach the cantonment’s defenses; security forces reported killing at least six. A clearance operation is underway.
The blast also caused casualties in nearby civilian buildings, with damage reported to an adjacent mosque. Authorities have sealed off access to the blast site. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the attack, expressing sorrow and offering condolences to the victims’ families.
This attack comes amidst a surge in terrorist activity in Pakistan. Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reveals a 42% increase in militant attacks in January 2025 compared to December 2024, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being the hardest-hit province.
