**Krishnagiri, March 6, 2025** – A 14-year-old girl was rescued from a forced marriage in Anchetty, Krishnagiri district, after a complaint was filed by her grandmother. The girl, who had dropped out of school after Class 7, was married off to a 29-year-old man in Bengaluru on March 3rd. She subsequently escaped to her grandmother’s house and refused to return to her husband.
A video of the girl being forcibly taken away by her husband surfaced on social media, prompting police intervention. Superintendent of Police P. Thangadurai confirmed that the girl’s mother, her husband, and his uncle have been arrested and remanded in custody. Charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Child Marriage Act have been filed.
The girl is currently under police protection and will be transferred to a One-Stop Centre. While concerns were raised about her being held at the police station, the SP explained the decision was made to ensure her safety given the circumstances. Local ChildLine and the Child Welfare Committee are reportedly addressing the situation, although the CWC is currently operating with an expired tenure. Collector C. Dinesh Kumar stated that strict action will be taken against the accused.
