**CHAPEL HILL, NC** – The University of North Carolina’s football team will not be featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” this offseason, ending weeks of negotiations between the university, head coach Mack Brown, and NFL Films. Sources close to CBS Sports report that a deal couldn’t be reached due to disagreements over creative control.

While both sides initially appeared close to an agreement, a contract was never finalized. This marks the first time NFL Films had approached a college program for the series, and the lack of a deal likely closes the door on any NFL team participation in the offseason edition this year. NFL free agency begins March 12th, leaving insufficient time to find a replacement team.

The decision is a setback for UNC, which had hoped for the prestige and exposure the show offers. Although the university remains interested in a behind-the-scenes documentary, the opportunity to work with HBO and NFL Films – the latter having a long-standing relationship with Coach Brown – has been missed. UNC General Manager Michael Lombardi confirmed previous negotiations but emphasized the university’s commitment to ensuring all aspects of any such project are properly managed.

The “Hard Knocks” training camp and in-season series announcements are expected as early as the NFL’s annual meetings in April.
