**Madurai, March 5, 2025** – Three individuals from rural Madurai district, including two women, have fallen victim to an online investment scam, losing a collective ₹44 lakh. The Madurai District Cyber Crime Police have registered three separate cases under the Information Technology Act, 2008.
The victims, lured by anonymous messages on social media promising high returns for completing assigned tasks, deposited money in installments into various digital wallets. Two women from Y. Othakadai lost ₹7.44 lakh and ₹5.57 lakh respectively, while a 38-year-old man from Alanganallur lost ₹30.65 lakh. Upon attempting to withdraw their funds, they discovered their wallets were locked, realizing they had been defrauded. Police are investigating to identify the perpetrators.
