**Charleston, SC** – Multiple Lowcountry school districts have announced closures or shifts to eLearning for Wednesday, October 25th, due to a severe weather threat. The impending storm is forecast to bring isolated tornadoes, sustained winds of 36-46 mph, and gusts up to 75 mph between 6:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Charleston County, Berkeley County, Dorchester District 4, Colleton County, and Beaufort County school districts will be completely closed. Dorchester District 2 will transition to eLearning. Orangeburg County schools will also be closed, with all extracurricular activities postponed. Several private schools, including Palmetto Christian Academy and First Baptist School of Charleston, have also announced closures. Learn4Life High School-Charleston will utilize eLearning.
The decision to close schools was based on safety concerns, particularly regarding high wind gusts exceeding 40 mph, which would make school bus travel unsafe. Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College will have a delayed opening at 12:30 p.m.
This is a developing story. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
