Wed Mar 05 16:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Underdog Rogers High School Makes History, Heads to State Hockey Tournament
**St. Paul, MN** – Rogers High School is making history. For the first time in the program’s history, the hockey team will compete in the Minnesota State High School Boys Hockey Tournament at the Xcel Energy Center. The team, facing off against Edina Thursday night, is brimming with excitement.
“It’s exciting being the team that can break the seal and show the younger generations it can be done,” said defenseman Nolen Geerdes. Forward Keaton Weis echoed the sentiment, stating, “The last few years, we have gotten so close. To finally do it, it’s nice to be the first ones.”
Coach David Brown sees Rogers’ presence in the tournament as inspiring for other smaller programs. He cites Andover’s state championship win a few years ago as proof that even unexpected teams can achieve success. “It can be possible,” Brown stated, referencing the impact of Andover’s victory on smaller metro area programs.
The game against Edina promises to be a thrilling matchup, marking a momentous occasion for Rogers High School and its hockey program. For more information and coverage of the tournament, visit KSTP’s 2025 Boys State Hockey Tournament Central.
