Tue Mar 04 21:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Red Flag Warning Issued for Harris County Amid High Wind and Dry Conditions

**Houston, TX** – A red flag warning is in effect for Harris County and areas west of Interstate 45 until Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service (NWS) announced. The warning, upgraded from a fire weather watch, cites strong wind gusts up to 45 mph and extremely low humidity (15-25%) as creating ideal conditions for wildfires. Residents are urged to avoid all activities that could spark a fire, including discarding cigarettes improperly or operating equipment that could create sparks.

The NWS also issued a Gale Warning for all Gulf waters and Galveston Bay, forecasting sustained winds of 35-47 knots and hazardous conditions. While the risk of severe weather is higher northeast of Houston, with potential for strong wind gusts, hail, and isolated tornadoes, a slight to marginal risk also exists along and east of I-45. Sporadic power outages are possible if strong winds materialize. A coastal flood advisory is also in effect through 9 p.m. Tuesday. The NWS advises residents to exercise extreme caution and remain aware of the heightened fire danger.
