**Tiruchi, March 5, 2025** – Renowned Tamil poet, writer, and public speaker Nandalala passed away on Tuesday at the age of 69 following a prolonged illness. He had been admitted to a Bengaluru hospital in late January for heart surgery and underwent a valve replacement on February 1st. Despite medical treatment, he succumbed to his illness Tuesday morning.

Nandalala, whose real name was Neduncheliyan Singaravelu, was a retired bank employee and a prominent figure in the Tiruchi literary and cultural scene. He held significant positions in several literary organizations, including serving as the state vice-president of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers’ and Artists’ Association and as a general council member of the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram. He was widely admired for his contributions to popularizing Tamil literature and his engaging public speaking. His most recent publication, “Tiruchirappalli: Oorum Varalarum,” is a highly regarded chronicle of the region’s history.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin offered his condolences, praising Nandalala’s talent and his significant contributions to Tamil society. He highlighted Nandalala’s deep affection for his hometown of Tiruchi, as evidenced in his latest book, and his respect for prominent Tamil figures such as Periyar, Annadurai, and Karunanidhi.

Nandalala’s mortal remains will be brought to his residence in Tiruchi on Wednesday for public homage, with the final rites scheduled for March 6th. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
