Vijayawada, March 5, 2025 – Andhra Pradesh Medical and Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has affirmed the state’s commitment to adhering to National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines regarding Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs). Responding to concerns raised by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLAs in the Legislative Assembly, Minister Yadav clarified that the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council lacks the authority to deviate from NMC regulations.

The issue centers on FMGs who undertook portions of their MBBS studies online due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine War. While some FMGs sought permanent registration after completing a one-year internship, citing compensation certificates from their universities, the state council found inconsistencies in the documentation regarding online study periods. Consequently, these FMGs were instructed to complete an additional year of internship to compensate for the lack of in-person clinical training. The Minister stated that those who completed their studies entirely offline abroad are granted permanent registration after a one-year internship.

The Minister confirmed that the state medical council is actively engaging with the NMC to address the outstanding issues raised by the FMGs, emphasizing the mandatory one-year Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) requirement for all FMGs seeking permanent registration in Andhra Pradesh.
