**Hyderabad, March 5, 2025** – Kia India has implemented a groundbreaking logistics solution, becoming the first carmaker to utilize a double-decker freight train for the transport of its SUVs. The initiative, launched from Penukonda railway station, aims to significantly reduce delivery times and enhance efficiency across the country.
The innovative approach allows for the transportation of up to 264 SUVs per train, a substantial increase compared to the 100-car capacity of conventional trains. This increased capacity, combined with reduced transit times, will help Kia meet the growing demand in India’s expanding automotive market. The first shipment via the double-decker train targeted the National Capital Region (NCR).
Hardeep Singh Brar, Kia India’s Senior VP and Head of Sales and Marketing, stated that this eco-friendly solution will not only accelerate the company’s growth but also contribute to a reduced carbon footprint. Kia’s Anantapur factory has already transported over 60,000 SUVs via rail to various regions of India. The company expects the new system to dramatically decrease customer wait times for their vehicles. This marks a major advancement in automotive logistics, promising increased efficiency and sustainability throughout the industry.
