Wed Mar 05 08:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Phoenix Force Game 3 After Dominant Game 2 Win, But Offensive Rebounding Remains a Concern

**Wollongong, NSW –** The South East Melbourne Phoenix have successfully forced a Game 3 in their playoff series against the Illawarra Hawks after a commanding 94-point victory in Game 2. Despite the win, Phoenix coach Josh King highlighted offensive rebounding as a key area needing improvement before Wednesday’s decisive clash at WIN Entertainment Centre.

The Phoenix’s defensive strategy proved effective, limiting the Hawks to below their season average of 101.4 points and forcing 13 turnovers – a significant improvement from Game 1. This defensive pressure translated into 18 fast-break points for the Phoenix. Star players Tyler Harvey and Trey Kell III were also effectively contained.

Matt Hurt led the Phoenix’s offensive charge with 30 points, while Nathan Sobey contributed 25. However, King expressed concern over the team’s 19 offensive rebounds allowed, stating that giving up that many “I don’t know if I thought we would have won the game.” The Hawks’ 29 free-throw attempts also presented a challenge. King emphasized the need to limit Harvey’s transition opportunities and reduce the number of second-chance points conceded.

Hurt’s performance was a significant turnaround from Game 1, where he managed only 10 points on six shot attempts. In Game 2, he showcased his potential with a dominant performance, demonstrating why he’s considered one of the league’s best players.

The series now heads to Wollongong for a winner-takes-all Game 3 on Wednesday night at 7pm AEDT, live on ESPN. The Phoenix will need to address their offensive rebounding deficiencies to secure victory and advance in the playoffs.
