Wed Mar 05 14:17:54 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Official Arrested for ₹16 Crore Fraud
**Karur, Tamil Nadu – March 5, 2025** – S. Surya Prakash, a Special District Revenue Officer with the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), was arrested Wednesday by the Karur District Crime Branch police on charges of defrauding a Karur-based entrepreneur out of ₹16 crore.
Prakash, who previously served as a DRO in Karur, allegedly promised to secure orders for mosquito nets and solar panels for the entrepreneur, Nallamuthu. He reportedly presented a fake order for ₹8 crore worth of mosquito nets to an Assam-based company, leading Nallamuthu to supply the goods. A similar scheme involving solar panels resulted in another ₹8 crore loss for Nallamuthu. The fraudulent activities occurred between 2021 and 2022.
Following Nallamuthu’s complaint, police apprehended Prakash in Chennai and brought him to Karur for questioning. He was subsequently produced before a Judicial Magistrate court. Three other accomplices, including a Block Development Officer, have also been arrested. Police are searching for three additional suspects in Assam and one in Bengaluru. A senior police officer stated that Prakash is the prime accused in this major fraud case.
