Wed Mar 05 15:46:35 UTC 2025: ## Kerala’s Electricity Consumption Hits Record High
**Thiruvananthapuram, March 5, 2025** – Kerala’s electricity consumption soared to a record high of 100.84 million units (mu) on Tuesday, March 4th, surpassing the 100 mu mark for the first time this summer. This surge is attributed to rising summer temperatures.
Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty had previously predicted that consumption would exceed 100 mu in March. While this record is significant, it falls short of the state’s all-time high of 115.94 mu recorded on May 3rd, 2024. The highest peak demand remains at 5,797 megawatts (MW), also recorded in May 2024.
A concerning aspect of Tuesday’s consumption is the heavy reliance on imports. Of the total 100.84 mu consumed, a significant 80.76 mu was imported, while internal generation, primarily from hydropower, contributed only 20.08 mu. Despite this, reservoir storage levels in hydel dams stood at a relatively healthy 55%, equivalent to 2271.33 mu.
