Wed Mar 05 16:18:09 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Power Company Cracks Down on Electricity Theft, Imposes Over ₹6 Crore in Fines

**Mysuru, March 5, 2025** – The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) has announced a significant crackdown on electricity theft across its operational areas in Karnataka. During the 2024-25 financial year, the CESC vigilance squad conducted widespread operations in Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Kodagu, and Hassan districts, resulting in the imposition of over ₹6 crore in fines.

According to a press release issued by CESC Vigilance Executive Engineer C. Umesh and Deputy Superintendent of Police Anandamurthy, the squad inspected 5,716 establishments and registered 1,312 cases of electricity theft and misuse. The total fines imposed amounted to ₹6,36,72,607, in addition to the recovery of ₹5,94,89,898 in outstanding fines. 23,014 meters were also inspected, leading to further fines for non-cognizable offenses.

Authorities emphasized that electricity theft is a criminal offense and warned of legal action against those involved. They urged the public to report any suspected cases of theft, assuring confidentiality for informants. Contact numbers for the CESC Vigilance Squad in each district were provided in the release.
