Tue Mar 04 15:29:05 UTC 2025: ## Township Construction to Begin for Mundakkai-Chooralmala Landslide Survivors

**Thiruvananthapuram, March 4, 2025** – Construction of a new township for survivors of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides will commence this month, Revenue Minister K. Rajan announced Tuesday. The project aims to rehabilitate those who lost their homes in the disaster.

Land acquisition, expedited following a court ruling against a stay, will be completed within 15 days. A hearing will be held from March 10-12 for affected individuals to choose their plots. Complaints regarding the list of eligible families can be submitted until March 13, with a finalized list expected within two weeks.

Initially planned to provide five cents of land per house, the allocation has been increased to seven cents, necessitating a redesign. Sponsors will contribute ₹20 lakh per house, with the government covering the remaining costs. Land acquisition at Punchirimattam has been ruled out. The government also plans to build new bridges and roads in the affected areas, including a replacement for the Bailey Bridge.

Minister Rajan stated that the government is considering extending the ₹300 monthly financial assistance to disaster victims for another nine months. Instead of direct provision distribution, a ₹1,000 card will be issued for purchases from Supplyco. The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to dialogue and addressing the concerns of affected residents to ensure a smooth rehabilitation process. Topographical, geographical, hydrographical surveys, field visits and soil testing have already been completed.
