Tue Mar 04 14:16:18 UTC 2025: ## Local Student Selected for Prestigious ASEAN Astronomy Camp in Thailand

**Hubballi, Karnataka, March 4, 2025** – Krushi Menasinakai, a 10th-standard student from Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 in Hubballi, has earned a coveted spot at the ASEAN Astronomy Camp in Thailand. The camp, hosted by the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) and the International Training Centre in Astronomy under UNESCO (ITCA), will take place from March 11th to 14th at the Princess Sirindhorn Astro Park and the Astronomy Information and Training Centre in Chiang Mai.

Menasinakai was selected from a pool of 316 applicants, representing one of only two Indian students chosen for the prestigious program. Her selection was based on an essay she submitted on astronomy. The camp aims to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among secondary school students from across the ASEAN region and beyond.

The young astronomer credits her selection to a science excursion to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Bengaluru last April, organized by her school under the PM School for Rising India (PMSHRI) program. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to interact with ISRO scientists during the visit, which significantly fueled her interest in astronomy.

Beyond her astronomical pursuits, Menasinakai is also a talented athlete, having represented the Bengaluru region in athletics at the national-level Kendriya Vidyalayas sports meet in Ernakulum, Kerala earlier this year. She will have the opportunity to visit laboratories, observe the 40-meter Thai National Radio Telescope and the 2.4-meter Thai National Telescope, and participate in various activities during the camp.
