**Hyderabad, March 4, 2025** – The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has accused the Congress government in Telangana of reneging on promises made to farmers, specifically citing the non-payment of insurance premiums under the Rythu Bima scheme. BRS leaders S. Niranjan Reddy and M. Anand held a press conference today alleging that the Congress government’s failure to pay ₹750 crore to the Life Insurance Corporation of India has left approximately 7,000 families of deceased farmers without insurance claims, including those of 450 farmers who died by suicide.
The BRS highlighted the success of the Rythu Bima scheme under their rule, noting that insurance claims totaling ₹5,909.85 crore were paid to the families of 1,18,197 deceased farmers. They contrasted this with the current situation, blaming the Congress government for the discontinuation of payments and the resulting hardship for affected families.
Further accusations included the government’s failure to provide adequate irrigation water, forcing farmers to abandon crops. The BRS also criticized the state’s agriculture commission chairman’s appeal to farmers to avoid paddy cultivation this Rabi season, despite farmers already planting paddy across 53.25 lakh acres.
The BRS urged farmers to exercise restraint while demanding accountability from the government. The party reiterated their commitment to supporting farmers’ welfare.
