**Madurai, March 4, 2025** – A 10-year-old girl sustained bleeding injuries while protecting her mother from a knife attack by her father in Palanganatham, Madurai, on Sunday night. According to Subramaniapuram police, the incident began when the girl’s mother, Janagamari (36), discovered a sword and knife in their home. Her husband, S. Vijay (35), claimed he kept the weapons for self-defense due to perceived enemies.
An argument ensued after Janagamari urged her husband to dispose of the weapons. Vijay became enraged and attempted to attack his wife with the knife. Their daughter intervened, resulting in a cut to her thumb. Vijay fled the scene but returned the following day and assaulted his wife.
Police have filed a case against Vijay under charges of assault, using abusive language, and violating the Arms Act based on Janagamari’s complaint. The injured girl is receiving medical treatment.
