Mon Mar 03 10:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Chicago to Spring Forward Next Week: Daylight Saving Time Arrives March 9th
**CHICAGO, IL** – Chicago residents will soon be “springing forward” as Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins on Sunday, March 9th at 2 a.m. This means clocks will need to be advanced one hour, resulting in a shorter night’s sleep.
The change, mandated by the 2005 Energy Policy Act, will bring longer daylight hours to the city. On March 9th, sunrise will be at 7:11 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:50 p.m., providing over 11.5 hours of daylight. By March 17th, Chicago will experience 12 hours of daylight for the first time since autumn, with sunrise before 7 a.m. The spring equinox, marking the official astronomical start of spring, falls on March 20th.
This year’s Daylight Saving Time period will last 34 weeks, ending on November 2nd, 2025.
