Mon Mar 03 14:33:14 UTC 2025: ## BJP Protests Karnataka Government’s Plan to Divert SC/ST Funds

**YADGIR, Karnataka –** The BJP is vehemently protesting the Karnataka government’s proposal to redirect funds allocated for Scheduled Castes Sub Plan (SCSP) and Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) towards the Congress party’s newly announced guarantee schemes. State BJP vice-president N. Mahesh led a protest in Yadgir on Monday, accusing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of potentially violating guidelines set by the Planning Commission.

Mahesh stated that Social Welfare Minister H.C. Mahadevappa has already submitted a proposal to divert these crucial funds. He warned of intensified protests both inside and outside the state legislature if the Chief Minister confirms the diversion in the budget. While not opposing the guarantee schemes themselves, the BJP strongly objects to using funds earmarked for the upliftment of SC/ST communities for other purposes.

Mahesh questioned the government’s justification for diverting “thousands of crores of rupees,” demanding to know how many SC/ST individuals are actually benefiting from the guarantee schemes. He emphasized that SCSP and TSP funds should be exclusively utilized for education, employment, and industrial development within these communities. The BJP is exploring legal action if the funds are diverted.

The party has formed 14 teams to organize statewide protests and has received support from pro-Dalit organizations. Further protests are planned in Bengaluru if the government proceeds with its plan. A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister following Monday’s protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Yadgir.
