Sun Mar 02 17:32:33 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Amma Canteen Wastewater Poses Health Risk, Residents Complain

**Chennai, March 3, 2025** – Residents near an Amma Canteen in Velachery have complained about unsanitary conditions caused by the canteen’s wastewater. The wastewater, currently collected in an unlinked concrete pit, overflows onto Station Service Road, creating a foul smell and posing a health hazard to motorists, pedestrians, and canteen patrons. A reader, T. Mageshwaran, urged the Greater Chennai Corporation to connect the pit to the drainage network. A senior Corporation official confirmed that the health department will be instructed to address the issue.

Separately, concerns have been raised about planned roadworks on Angappa Naicken Street in Broadway. The Corporation’s proposal to build a bituminous road atop the existing concrete road without milling it first will raise the road level, potentially leading to waterlogging during rainfall. Residents are urging the Corporation to mill the existing concrete before resurfacing.
