Mon Mar 03 15:10:49 UTC 2025: ## Thiruvananthapuram Enacts Green Protocol for Attukal Pongala Festival
**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, March 3, 2025** – The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has launched a green initiative for this year’s Attukal Pongala festival, urging devotees to minimize waste. Mayor Arya Rajendran appealed for the adoption of a strict green protocol, encouraging the use of reusable steel plates and tumblers instead of disposable plastics and paper.
The initiative extends to voluntary organizations and clubs distributing food and water, who are asked to refrain from using disposable containers and plastic water bottles. Instead, they are encouraged to utilize large containers for water distribution, dispensing it using steel tumblers. Environmentally friendly materials are also requested for decorations.
Organizations involved in food and water distribution must register on the Smart Trivandrum mobile application. A “green army” of children, part of the Suchitwa Mission’s green protocol campaign, will participate in awareness programs alongside Haritha Karma Sena members deployed throughout the city and surrounding panchayats. The goal is to significantly reduce waste generated during the festival.
