Mon Mar 03 07:01:17 UTC 2025: ## Supreme Court to Hear Gujarat Journalist’s Bail Plea
**New Delhi, March 3, 2025** – The Supreme Court of India issued a notice to the Gujarat government on Monday regarding the bail plea of Mahesh Langa, a correspondent for *The Hindu* in Ahmedabad. Langa has been in custody for 70 days following his arrest in a forgery case.
The Gujarat High Court denied Langa bail on February 6th. His lawyers, including senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Meenakshi Arora, argued before the Supreme Court that his continued detention is unjust, particularly as co-accused have been granted bail. The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing in two weeks.
Langa was initially arrested in October 2024 on charges of cheating a businessman out of ₹28.68 lakh. A second FIR was filed after documents belonging to the Gujarat Maritime Board were found in his possession. The Enforcement Directorate is also investigating Langa’s alleged connection to DA Enterprises, a company implicated in a GST fraud case, where unaccounted cash was seized. Recent searches by the ED yielded further incriminating documents. The money laundering investigation stems from a complaint by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence.
