**KOCHI, March 3, 2025** – Renowned nephrologist and surgeon Dr. George P. Abraham, 74, was found dead at his farmhouse in Thuruthissery, Ernakulam district, Kerala, late Sunday night. Police have confirmed that a suicide note was discovered, indicating the cause of death was linked to his inability to continue his medical practice due to a recent back surgery.
Dr. Abraham, who had performed over 2,000 kidney transplants and numerous laparoscopic urological surgeries during his 25-year career, reportedly suffered from hand tremors following the surgery six months ago, severely impacting his surgical capabilities. He had visited the farmhouse with his brother and a friend on Sunday. After dropping them off, he returned alone to the farmhouse, where his body was later discovered.
His brother alerted authorities after Dr. Abraham failed to return home. Police, using his mobile phone location, found him at the farmhouse. A neighbour recounted witnessing the frantic search by a man believed to be Dr. Abraham’s brother on Sunday night.
An inquest was conducted at a private hospital, and a post-mortem examination will be performed at Government Medical College, Kalamassery. Dr. Abraham will be laid to rest at St. George Jacobite Syrian Church, Cheruthottukunnel, on Tuesday.
