**Los Angeles, March 2** – Sean Baker’s “Anora” dominated the 97th Academy Awards, held last night at the Dolby Theatre, securing five prestigious Oscars. The film, which entered the ceremony with less fanfare than the frontrunner, Jacques Audiard’s musical, won Best Picture, Best Director (Sean Baker), Best Actress (Mikey Madison), Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.
Emilia Perez also had a successful night, earning two awards: Best Original Song and Best Supporting Actress, the latter going to Zoe Saldana. “Conclave” took home the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
While “Anora” dominated, Adrien Brody won Best Actor for “The Brutalist,” and Kieran Culkin secured Best Supporting Actor for “A Real Pain.”
The only Indian film nominated, the live-action short “Anuja,” backed by Priyanka Chopra and Guneet Monga, lost to “I’m Not Robot,” ending India’s hopes for an Oscar this year.
The ceremony, hosted by Conan O’Brien, opened with a performance by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo from “Wicked” and included a James Bond musical tribute featuring Doja Cat, Lisa from Blackpink, and Raye. A special appearance by the Los Angeles Master Chorale also marked the night, which included a tribute to the victims of the recent Los Angeles wildfires.
