Mon Mar 03 01:10:58 UTC 2025: ## Education Minister Denies Hindi Imposition in New Education Policy

**New Delhi, March 3, 2025** – Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday dismissed claims that the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 would impose Hindi on non-Hindi speaking states. His comments follow recent objections from the Tamil Nadu government regarding the policy’s three-language formula.

Pradhan stated that the NEP emphasizes mother-tongue based education, clarifying that in Tamil Nadu, the language of instruction would be Tamil. He attributed the Tamil Nadu government’s opposition to “political reasons,” rejecting accusations of Hindi imposition. He further emphasized the policy’s commitment to all Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Odia, and Punjabi.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, in contrast, argued on Friday that forcing a third language in schools is unnecessary in the age of advanced translation technology. He criticized the BJP’s alleged insistence on Hindi proficiency even for everyday tasks. The differing viewpoints highlight a continuing tension between the central government and Tamil Nadu over the implementation of the NEP.
