**LEXINGTON, KY** – A fire affecting the ABC generator at Rupp Arena caused a significant disruption to the national broadcast of Saturday’s Kentucky Wildcats versus Auburn Tigers basketball game. With just over 12 minutes remaining in the second half, the ABC feed unexpectedly went out, leaving viewers nationwide in the dark.
The network initially showed the Kansas-Texas Tech game before switching to pre-game coverage of an NHL hockey match. The remaining portion of the Kentucky-Auburn game, which Auburn won 94-78, eventually aired on ESPNews.
A University of Kentucky spokesperson confirmed that a fire impacting ABC’s generator equipment was the cause of the outage. The fire was quickly extinguished, but not before interrupting the broadcast.
The Wildcats’ next game, against LSU on Tuesday at 7 p.m., will be broadcast on ESPN2.
