**Mumbai, March 3, 2025** – The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) opposition parties in Maharashtra boycotted a customary tea party with the ruling government on the eve of the state’s budget session. The boycott, a protest over issues including rising crime against women and alleged government inaction, occurred on March 2nd at the Sahyadri State Guest House.
The MVA, in a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, cited concerns about several issues including land allocation to the Adani Group for Dharavi slum redevelopment, allegations of corruption against the MMRDA, farmer distress, and the increasing number of crimes against women. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve stated that the government had failed to address these concerns.
Chief Minister Fadnavis countered the opposition’s claims, criticizing their reliance on media reports and alleging that the MVA consistently boycotts discussions. He announced the government’s intention to introduce five bills during the four-week session (March 5th-26th), hold debates on women’s empowerment and the Constitution, and present a balanced budget on March 10th. He also clarified that the Ladki Bahin scheme would continue, with ineligible beneficiaries removed. Fadnavis further denied any rift between himself and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, emphasizing their united efforts within the ruling Mahayuti coalition.
