Mon Mar 03 11:08:20 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu CM Urges Couples to Have Children Amidst Delimitation Row

**Chennai, [Date]** – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has sparked controversy by urging newlyweds to have children immediately, framing it as a strategic move to counter the Centre’s upcoming delimitation exercise. Speaking at a DMK party function, Stalin’s remarks were a thinly veiled criticism of the delimitation process, which he claims will disadvantage southern states that have successfully implemented family planning programs.

Stalin argues that the planned redrawing of constituency boundaries, based on population changes, will reduce Tamil Nadu’s representation in Parliament despite the state’s significant economic contribution to the nation. He contends that effective population control, a positive achievement for the country, is now being used against southern states. His call for increased childbirth was presented as a means to counteract this perceived disadvantage.

However, the BJP’s CR Keshavan has strongly criticized Stalin’s statement, dismissing it as a “desperate and dishonest diversionary tactic.” Keshavan pointed out the apparent contradiction between Stalin’s call for increased births and the Congress party’s advocacy for “rights proportionate to population,” further accusing the DMK of deflecting attention from alleged mismanagement within the state.

Meanwhile, Stalin also voiced concerns about the Centre’s alleged attempts to impose Hindi through the National Education Policy and appealed to all parties, including the BJP, to attend an all-party meeting on March 5th to discuss the delimitation issue and formulate a unified state response. He emphasized that the delimitation issue affects all of Tamil Nadu, not just the DMK.
