Mon Mar 03 12:40:40 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Ophthalmologists Urge Government Action on Promotions and Staffing
**SRIKAKULAM, Andhra Pradesh –** The Andhra Pradesh State Ophthalmic Officers’ Association is calling on the state government to address critical staffing shortages and approve promotions for long-serving ophthalmologists. Sappati Vasantha Rao, the association’s newly elected state general secretary, made the appeal on Monday.
Rao highlighted the increasing prevalence of visual disorders like myopia and cataracts, linked to changing lifestyles and diets. He stressed the need for at least one ophthalmologist per 100,000 people to meet the growing demand for eye care services. He also urged the government to promote ophthalmic officers who have completed 30 years of service.
Currently, existing officers are overburdened with multiple responsibilities and frequent medical camps, Rao explained. The association plans to meet Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav to present a memorandum outlining their concerns and demands. Rao was recently felicitated by the Srikakulam Ophthalmic Officers Association for his new role.
