Mon Mar 03 13:01:56 UTC 2025: ## Mysuru Activists to Protest Delay in MCC Elections

**Mysuru, March 3, 2025** – Activists in Mysuru are planning a demonstration on March 5th to protest the prolonged delay in holding elections for the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC). The MCC’s term ended 15 months ago in November 2023, and the state government has yet to announce a date for new elections.

The protest, organized by the MCC Elections Struggle Committee, will include a demonstration outside the MCC office at 11:30 a.m. and a public awareness campaign distributing pamphlets throughout the city. Activists cite significant civic issues stemming from the lack of an elected body, including garbage accumulation, sewage blockages, water shortages, and inadequate street lighting and road maintenance.

Retired University of Mysore professor Nanjaraj Urs, a key figure in the protest, stated that while officials are attempting to manage these problems, the absence of elected representatives hinders effective solutions. He attributed the delay to the government’s proposal to establish a Greater Mysuru City Corporation (GMCC), a process he estimates will take at least three more years to complete, involving boundary demarcation, ward increases from 65 to 99, and legislative approval.

While not opposing the GMCC proposal in principle, Prof. Urs argues that it is being used as a pretext to postpone the MCC elections, leaving citizens to suffer from inadequate civic services in the interim. The proposed GMCC would incorporate areas currently under the Hootagalli City Municipal Council and several town and gram panchayats.
