**Chandigarh, March 2, 2025** – Haryana held municipal elections on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025, for seven municipal corporations (Gurugram, Manesar, Faridabad, Hisar, Rohtak, Karnal, and Yamunanagar), as well as by-elections in Ambala and Sonipat. Voting also took place for various positions in four municipal councils and 21 municipal committees across the state. The elections, conducted using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), ran from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed confidence in a BJP victory, predicting accelerated development under the “triple-engine” government. The Congress party countered with a call for a full majority. Several candidates were elected unopposed in various wards due to a lack of competition.
Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar urged voters to participate, emphasizing their democratic right and duty. Haryana State Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh confirmed extensive security arrangements were in place to ensure free and fair elections. The Panipat municipal corporation elections are scheduled for March 9th, with vote counting and results declaration set for March 12th. The overall turnout appeared low for the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Final results are expected on March 12th.
