Sun Mar 02 04:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Tank Davis Favored to Stop Roach in WBA Lightweight Title Defense

**Brooklyn, NY** – Gervonta “Tank” Davis will defend his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach Jr. this Saturday night at the Barclays Center. Davis, a two-division world champion known for his devastating knockout power, enters the fight as a heavy favorite. Only two fighters have ever gone the distance with Davis in his 12-year professional career, and neither won. Roach, the reigning WBA junior lightweight champion, is moving up in weight for this challenge.

Davis, confident as ever, predicted another quick victory at Thursday’s press conference, stating, “It’s going to get bad. He’s been talking too much too, so we’ll see Saturday night… I know there will be fireworks.”

Roach, however, aims to become the first fighter to defeat Davis by decision. The early rounds of the fight have shown a cautious Roach, utilizing jabs and body shots, while Davis remains elusive, countering effectively and displaying a strong defense. While Roach has had moments of success, Davis appears to be controlling the tempo and landing the more impactful punches.

The undercard features a pair of compelling title fights. Gary Antuanne Russell dominated Jose Valenzuela en route to winning the WBA junior welterweight title by unanimous decision in a twelve-round bout showcasing Russell’s aggressive style and powerful right hook. In a closely contested match, Alberto Puello edged out Sandor Martin via split decision to retain his WBC junior lightweight title, highlighting Puello’s effective close-range fighting despite Martin landing more overall punches. The opening bout saw Yoenis Tellez claim the interim WBA junior middleweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Julian Williams.

The Davis vs. Roach fight card is available on Prime Video pay-per-view for $79.95. The event also includes two free preliminary fights. Experts predict a knockout victory for Davis within eight rounds.
