Sun Mar 02 03:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Chivas Fire Coach Óscar García Junyent After Nine Games
**GUADALAJARA, MEXICO –** Chivas de Guadalajara have parted ways with head coach Óscar García Junyent after just nine Liga MX matches. The Spanish coach’s tenure ended abruptly, just hours before Saturday’s game against Pumas. The decision follows the recent dismissal of the Spanish-led technical committee, comprised of Juan Carlos Martínez and Fran Pérez.
García’s time with Chivas yielded a record of four wins (all at home), three draws, and four losses, leaving the team in 11th place in the Clausura 2025, outside of playoff contention. This comes at a critical juncture, with three upcoming matches against rivals América, including a Concacaf Champions Cup round of 16 clash.
While assistants Francisco Ruano and Manuel Expósito were initially listed as interim coaches for the Pumas game, Chivas ultimately named institutional coach José Meléndez, who led the Tapatío team to the Liga de Expansión title in Apertura 2024, as the team’s new head coach. The club will now search for a long-term replacement after disbanding its technical committee.
Chivas owner Amaury Vergara, who remained silent on the matter when questioned before the Pumas game, confirmed the changes implicitly through the team’s official lineup announcement. The future direction of the club’s sporting project remains to be seen.
