**Mumbai, March 2 –** Delhi Capitals (DC) stormed to the top of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) standings with a convincing nine-wicket victory over defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday. A stellar all-around performance saw DC restrict MI to a modest 123/9 before chasing down the target with ease, achieving victory with 33 balls remaining.

Jess Jonassen spearheaded DC’s bowling attack, claiming 3/25, including the crucial wickets of Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur, and G Kamalini. MI’s innings lacked the usual firepower, despite a 38-run partnership between Sciver-Brunt and Kaur. Several batters fell cheaply, leaving MI struggling to reach a respectable total.

In reply, DC’s openers Shafali Verma (43 off 28) and Meg Lanning (60* off 49) laid the foundation for a comfortable win, putting on an 85-run stand. Verma’s explosive knock featured four boundaries and two sixes before she was caught near the boundary. Lanning, however, remained unbeaten, anchoring the chase with a classy innings studded with nine boundaries. Jemimah Rodrigues provided finishing touches, remaining not out on 15.

The victory propels DC to the top of the table with eight points from six matches, surpassing MI who now sit second with six points from five games. DC’s next match is against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday, while MI will face UP Warriorz on March 6th.
