Fri Feb 28 07:00:00 UTC 2025: ## EPFO May Cut Interest Rates on PF Contributions; Meeting Scheduled for February 28
**NEW DELHI** – The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is set to announce a possible reduction in interest rates on provident fund (PF) contributions. The Central Board of Trustees (CBT) will meet on February 28th to discuss the interest rate for the 2024-25 fiscal year. Reports suggest that the rate could fall below the 8.25% offered for the previous financial year, potentially impacting millions of EPFO members.
While the exact reduction remains uncertain, reports indicate a marginal decrease, possibly settling around 8.2% to 8.25%. This potential decrease is attributed to a decline in bond yields in recent months. The EPFO’s investment committee already held a meeting last week to discuss the organisation’s income and expenditure profile, leading to discussions about a potential interest rate cut.
The EPFO received ₹2.26 lakh crore in contributions in 2023-24, a 6.54% year-on-year increase, with total investments reaching ₹15.29 lakh crore by March 31st, 2024. The CBT, chaired by Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, will also discuss pension-related matters during the February 28th meeting. The EPFO’s executive committee meeting was held on February 26th. The final decision on the interest rate will be announced following the CBT meeting.
