**Kuala Lumpur, February 26, 2025** – A renewed search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 has begun, offering a glimmer of hope in solving one of aviation’s most enduring mysteries. A ship belonging to Ocean Infinity, the US exploration firm contracted by Malaysia, has deployed to the Southern Indian Ocean search zone, according to Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke and ship tracking data.
The Boeing 777, carrying 239 people, vanished on March 8, 2014, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. While Malaysia has given principle approval and welcomes the proactive deployment, the contract with Ocean Infinity is yet to be finalized, casting some uncertainty over the long-term prospects. Minister Loke emphasized that the search will have a defined timeframe.
Ocean Infinity’s renewed search will expand the previous search area by 15,000 sq km, focusing on an area deemed more credible based on their previous analysis of the missing data. This 18-month effort will leverage the optimal search window between January and April.
Previous searches, including one by Ocean Infinity in 2018, and a joint effort by Australia, China, and Malaysia covering 120,000 sq km, yielded no results. Despite the discovery of some debris believed to be from the aircraft along the African coast and in the Indian Ocean, the plane’s main wreckage remains elusive. A 2018 report suggested deliberate manipulation of the aircraft’s controls, but investigators could not definitively determine who was responsible.
Relatives of the victims continue to seek compensation from various parties involved, including Malaysia Airlines, Boeing, Rolls-Royce, and Allianz. The renewed search offers a renewed chance to finally uncover the truth behind this decades-long mystery.
