Wed Feb 26 23:30:00 UTC 2025: ## YSRCP Accuses Andhra Pradesh NDA Government of Suppressing Opposition

**Vijayawada, February 27, 2025** – The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has accused the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition in Andhra Pradesh of undermining democracy by refusing to recognize the YSRCP as the main opposition party in the state Assembly.

YSRCP MLC Lella Appi Reddy stated that the NDA government, comprising the TDP, JSP, and BJP, is deliberately ignoring the YSRCP’s right to official opposition status, thereby silencing dissenting voices. Reddy argued that despite only four parties being represented in the Assembly, with three forming the government, the YSRCP, as the largest party outside the ruling coalition, should be granted the status according to the 1977 Parliament Act. This status, he emphasized, provides the opposition with crucial time to raise public concerns in the Assembly.

Reddy highlighted instances where the YSRCP’s opposition status in the Legislative Council allowed them to effectively question the government on issues such as the forced resignations of Vice-Chancellors and inaccuracies within the Governor’s speech, forcing the government to admit mistakes. He characterized the NDA’s actions as a deliberate attempt to silence the opposition and suppress democratic processes.
