Tue Feb 25 18:23:21 UTC 2025: **Tamil Nadu Doctors Protest Pension Cuts**
CHENNAI, February 26, 2025 – The Doctors Association for Social Equality (DASE) has condemned a Tamil Nadu state government decision to reduce the pensions of over 850 government doctors who retired before 2009, calling it an “anti-labour” move. The reduction, implemented via a recent circular, is expected to decrease monthly pensions by approximately ₹20,000 for doctors aged 70 and above, many of whom lack private practices.
DASE general secretary G.R. Ravindranath criticized the move, highlighting the irony that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin previously opposed similar pension cuts when in opposition. The association is demanding the immediate withdrawal of the decision.
