Tue Feb 25 04:33:12 UTC 2025: **Bengaluru Theatre Production to Showcase Women’s Counter-Narratives**
BENGALURU, February 25, 2025 – In celebration of International Women’s Day, Theatre for Change will present a special performance of “When the Rainbow is Enough” on February 28th. This powerful production features five monologues written and performed by the actors themselves, exploring deeply personal experiences and challenging societal norms.
The play, an Indian adaptation of Ntozake Shange’s “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf,” tackles culturally stigmatized topics such as postpartum depression, the challenges faced by people with disabilities, and the complexities of navigating multiple societal roles as women. The unique aspect is the actors’ personal involvement in crafting their monologues, ensuring authenticity and emotional depth.
Founder Sujatha Balakrishnan emphasizes the importance of sharing counter-narratives, challenging dominant societal perspectives. The performance will be followed by an interactive session encouraging audience participation and further discussion.
Actor Supriya Jambunathan will share her story about the pressures women face juggling multiple roles, while Lakshmi Sridhar will recount her journey living with quadriplegia. The production aims not just to tell stories, but to initiate a transformative conversation.
The free performance will be held at the Science Gallery, Hebbal, from 6 pm to 8 pm, hosted by Rotary Dist 3192 DEI team and Rotary Bangalore Skyway.
