**New Delhi:** Shaktikanta Das, who recently retired as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has been appointed as Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The appointment, announced today, will last until the end of the Prime Minister’s current term.
Das, a 1980 batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, served as RBI Governor for six years, from December 2018 to December 2024. Prior to his RBI tenure, he held key positions including Secretary, Economic Affairs, and member of the 15th Finance Commission. He also represented India on several international platforms, including BRICS, the International Monetary Fund, and SAARC. His appointment follows the recent succession of Sanjay Malhotra as the new RBI Governor.
